Tech News (June 8–15, 2025): AI Outrage, Billion-Dollar Deals, SpaceX Power & More

From AI outages and privacy debates to major investments and satellite launches, this week had plenty going on in tech. ChatGPT faced a brief global issue, Meta made a massive move with Scale AI, and SpaceX added more satellites to its network.

ChatGPT Burst Out (June 10)

On June 10, ChatGPT experienced a global outage that left millions of users staring at blank screens and cryptic error messages. YouTube, Reddit, and X lit up with posts, memes, and user complaints as students, developers, content creators, and businesses hit pause on their workflow. The outage lasted for nearly half a day. The timing made it worse since it occurred during peak work hours across several regions, affecting those who rely on ChatGPT for daily productivity.

With over 120 million daily users, the downtime is estimated to have caused around 450 million dollars in global losses due to delays in content creation, coding, and customer support. Companies depending on GPT for automation faced real setbacks, and some began exploring alternatives like Claude and Gemini, which reportedly saw spikes in user traffic. OpenAI has restored service and issued an apology, also promising compensation for paid users.

When ChatGPT was asked about the issue, it said, “AI brain took a nap. Everyone freaked out.”

Your ChatGPT Talks Could Become Legally Private, Says OpenAI CEO

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently introduced the concept of AI privilege, suggesting that conversations with AI tools like ChatGPT should be treated with the same level of privacy as discussions with doctors or lawyers. This idea came in response to a lawsuit filed by The New York Times, which is demanding that OpenAI retain all user chats, including deleted ones, for a copyright investigation. Altman warned that such legal demands could harm user trust and discourage people from using AI for personal or sensitive matters.

At present, OpenAI deletes chats within 30 days if users choose to remove them, but the court’s pressure might change that. Altman is now pushing for legal protections that would classify AI conversations as confidential, aiming to protect user privacy and support open communication with AI tools.

AI Replaces Jobs? Nah!! Says Altman and Huang at VivaTech 2025

At the VivaTech conference in Paris last week, top tech CEOs including Sam Altman and Jensen Huang shared their thoughts on how AI will shape the future of jobs. Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, acknowledged that while some roles may become obsolete, many new ones will emerge. He pointed out that when companies become more productive with the help of AI, they usually expand and end up hiring more people, not fewer. Both leaders emphasized that AI should be viewed as a tool to enhance human potential, not as something that will replace people entirely. (Indian Express)

SpaceX Launches 26 New Starlink Satellites, Network Now Over 7,600 Strong
